10 Video Game Ending Tropes That Need To Die

To be continued... maybe, if we ever make a sequel, which we probably won't.

A CLIFFHANGER WITH NO SEQUEL

Half Life 2

Cliffhanger endings can be excellent bookends as often as they’re party poopers, but they’re at their absolute worst when they leave things hanging in the most unbelievable scenarios, and… and that’s it. For some reason or the other, we just never see them get resolves. More often than not, this happens because for some reason or the other, those games just never got sequels, but man does it hurt when this happens.

The most famous example, of course, is Half-Life 2: Episode 2, a game that ends with an unbelievable cliffhanger, and one that we’ve been waiting to see the resolution for to this day. There’s also Mega Man Legends 2, which was supposed to receive a sequel, but never did. Turok 3 also ended on a cliffhanger, but frustratingly enough, the next game was a prequel, and the one after that was a straight-up reboot.

At least we’re finally getting Shenmue 3 though.
