5. Soul Calibur
Soul Calibur's downfall has been a subtle one, but it's still hard to miss. One of the defining fighting titles when it made its debut on Dreamcast back in 1999, the original redefined what a fighting game could do on a home console. Soul Calibur 2 moved the franchise even more into the limelight and, though critically ignored by comparison, number three further developed the series' awesome single player modes. Soul Calibur 4 felt like it was dropping features rather than adding them, and SC5's attempts to simplify the game mechanics felt like a further retardation of the core gameplay. Let's hope Namco will see the light and revive the Soul Calibur franchise sometime soon.
