Hive Mind –  Dead Space

A key ingredient in Dead Space’s chilling atmosphere is just how isolating it is. You have nothing but a plasma cutter and its adjacent tools to combat the Necromorph hordes aboard the Ishumura ship. By contrast, the Necromorphs fight in large packs, led by the Hive Mind leader. When you finally confront the Hive Mind, its large size dwarfs that of anything you’ve encountered before. At least when you fight Hive Mind, you’re out of that cramped spaceship and out in the open, but you’ve also lost the few comrades you had up to that point, further punctuating how isolating Isaac Clarke and his mission is.
