4. Super Metroid – Mother Brain
One of the best games that mankind had the fortune to be acquainted with was Super Metroid. The last stage of the game also turned out to be one of the most unsettling ones in the game, and otherwise. We had no idea that an alien transparent floating being could be so compassionate.
After awakening the Mother Brain and being sapped of all our energy and ammo, we await our death when suddenly, Metroid bolts right past us to latch on to Mother Brain’s brain to drain all her juices. It further goes on to replenish our energy and then sacrifices itself. After that, it becomes more of a revenge fight for Samus and us fuelled by the altruistic sacrifice of Metroid. And although it was immensely satisfying to see Mother Brain blow up to cinders, the pain of loss has ever lingered onto us.
