FREE ONLINE PLAY
Though PC gamers still enjoy free online gaming (unless the games themselves require subscriptions or something), those playing on consoles are far less lucky. Xbox Live, PSN, even Nintendo Switch Online are all paid services. But during the 2000s, things were different. Sure, Microsoft charged money to play online on Xbox Live even then, but Nintendo and Sony were still blessedly consumer-friendly. Ah, how we miss those days, when we could jump into massive competitive battles in Resistance 2 or Killzone 2 on the PS3 without having to pay extra.
Oh, and speaking of Resistance 2 and Killzone 2…
