Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors
Spike Chunsoft’s visual novel/adventure game involves nine individuals trapped on a sinking ship, who must solve various puzzles to escape. Over time, the player learns about experiments that took place on the ship, more often than not, there’s a bad ending in store. In true visual novel fashion, you can start a new playthrough and attempt to get a better ending. But these aren’t “new” routes per say – your decisions from the previous branches are actually the key to surviving and getting the true ending. We won’t detail everything but suffice to say that it’s one of the better uses of New Game Plus for story-telling.
