HRAEZLYR (GOD OF WAR 2018)
In spite of being a seminal, generation-defining game, the latest entry on the PS4 does have a few flaws. The one that gets brought up more than most is the fact that, unlike most of its predecessors, the game doesn’t have very many actual, real boss fights. That said, the ones it does have are absolutely brilliant. Case in point, the dragon boss fight in the game’s first half. This dramatic, breath-taking encounter begins as the dragon tries to attack Kratos and Atrues inside the mountain, and when they meet once again outside, Kratos knows it’s game on- a dragon’s no match for Kratos, after all. The fight against the dragon is truly an astounding one, and not only does it serve as a thrilling, memorable set piece moment, but also as a traditional, very well designed boss fight as well, complete with great design, excellent attack patterns, and a fair bit of challenge involved.
