THE AUDIO DESIGN
Reusing work that developers have previously done in older games for sound and audio effects is a pretty common practice, even for games in different franchises- for understandable reasons. After all, a footstep just sounds like a footstep, right? But with The Last of Us, Naughty Dog did not do that. Thanks to the insistence of audio lead Phillip Kovats, every sound effect in the game was created entirely from scratch, and no work was carried over from previous Naughty Dog games.
