The Last of Us’ overgrown post-apocalyptic environments have become iconic by now, thanks to how effectively they contrast the desolate nature of the world against its natural beauty- and Naughty Dog used plenty of things as inspiration for that. For instance, specifically for the flooded areas of Pittsburgh in the game, Naughty Dog primarily looked at photos taken by Robert Polidori of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
