Localization Tales

Sega has been a little…weird when it comes to localizing its Yakuza series. Due to the failure of Yakuza Dead Souls, Sega revealed that it wouldn’t bring other games abroad and even removed the English websites for Yakuza. However, when Sony’s own third party relations asked players about the games they wanted localized, Ryu Ga Gotoku 5 was the most requested. Sega would eventually cave and announce Yakuza 5’s localization in 2014. Thanks to the demand for the game, Sega decided to release Yakuza 0 for English-speaking audiences as well, which went on to become a massive success. Thanks to this, Yakuza Kiwami and the recent Yakuza 6 have also been localized with Yakuza Kiwami 2 on the way in August.
