Sleeping Dogs
Though it’s set in an open world and has its share of side quests, Sleeping Dogs is clearly paying tribute to more than just Grand Theft Auto. The combat is akin to Batman: Arkham City but more visceral, the shooting involves bullet time (and there are even shooting sequences in cars handled far better than GTA) and the Infernal Affairs vibe from the whole story is slick. Sleeping Dogs is definitely one of the best open world action games out there despite releasing in 2012.
