THE MERCIES OF KNOWLEDGE
Saint Denis is full of colourful personalities, many of whom we’ve already discussed at great length in this feature. Another denizen of the city is Professor Andrew Bell, who’s working on an invention called the electric chair, as a humane way of executing prisoners of death row by dispatching them more quickly and with relatively less pain than a hanging. He enlists the aid of Arthur in his attempts to turn his experiments into a success, and the promise of a healthy payment is enough to get Mr. Morgan to agree. From acquiring materials required by the Professor, to capturing a criminal on whom he plans to run the experiment, to convincing the cops of Saint Denis to let him showcase his creation live to a crowd, “The Mercies of Knowledge” consists of one enjoyable scenario after another. Its ending, though decidedly not a happy one for the professor (nor for the criminal who serves as his test subject), also serves as excellent payoff for this long questline.
