CHARLOTTE THE WIDOW
Of the two categories of side questlines in Red Dead Redemption 2 we spoke of earlier, this falls in the first- the kind grounded in reality, and drawing strengths not from amusing situations and whacky circumstances, but from excellent writing, and memorable characters facing very real struggles. This collection of quests revolves around a woman named Charlotte, who, with her husband, left behind her unfulfilling, materialistic life in the cities and came out west, to live in the wilds and be closer to what’s “real”. Things didn’t go well, and, unequipped as they were to deal with their new way of life, Charlotte’s husband died shortly afterward. When Arthur meets her, she’s down in the dumps, in mourning, and dangerously close to death. Watching her come to terms with her loss and growing to flourish in her new surroundings makes for one of the most engaging side stories in Red Dead Redemption 2.
