CELESTE
There’s a whole bucketload of games that have proven over the years that talented indie developers can deliver stone-cold classics even without a multi-million dollar budget. Like Hollow Knight, which we spoke about earlier, Celeste is one of those games. As those who’ve played it will tell you, it is, in no vague terms, one of the best platformers you’ll ever play, combining precise movement, perfectly balanced challenge, and expert level design in what often feels like a flawless package. Meanwhile, just as impressive as its platforming is its surprisingly affecting story, one that ends up being far more personal, soulful, and beautiful than what you’d expect when you’re just starting out. The fact that the game was made by just two people makes its achievements seem that much more impressive.
