Persona is a rare franchise that, in spite of being at a ridiculously high level to begin with, has somehow kept on making significant improvements with each new instalment. After 2017’s seminal Persona 5, there were many who felt that its expanded re-release Persona 5 Royal would be the game to buck that trend- because how do you improve on something that is already so remarkable, right? Well, apparently, for Atlus, that comes quite naturally. Persona 5 Royal manages to outdo the game’s vanilla version so thoroughly, it’s almost impossible to imagine being able to go back to the latter. From story improvements to iterative upgrades, from gameplay enhancements to a meaty chunk of new content, Persona 5 Royal is the ultimate realization of the series’ beloved formula.
