THE ELDER SCROLLS 5: SKYRIM
Time and again over the years, Bethesda has delivered genre- and generation-defining open world RPGs, and even in that star-studded group, Skyrim arguably stands tall as the best of the lot. In 2011, its massive world, its bevy of engaging content, its systemic gameplay loop, and its single-minded emphasis on player agency took everyone’s breath away. In doing so, the game pretty much set the template that similar games stuck to for years to come. Many, in fact, are still aping Skyrim today, more than a decade on from its launch, which should tell you something about its enduring quality and unimpeachable legacy.
