The Last of Us Part 2 certainly divided opinion upon launch, to say the very least, with some of its narrative choices drawing the ire of many series fans. Regardless of how you feel about its story though, there’s little doubt in anyone’s mind that when it comes to how the game plays, its quality is unimpeachable. Whether you look at it as linear action-adventure game, as a stealth-focused title, or as a survival horror shooter, The Last of Us Part 2 improves upon its predecessor gameplay loop in ways that seem simple on paper, but end up adding surprising nuance and reactivity to every second of the experience. It might even be Naughty Dog’s best-playing game ever.
