Nintendo has experimented with 3D gameplay long before the technology kind of caught up to them with the Nintendo 3DS. The Virtual Boy was a strange beast, with a black and red display that you strapped to your face and controlled with a really weird symmetrical controller. If the eye bleeding visuals didn’t give you a migraine in 20 minutes, you would probably have seen half of what the library had to offer within an hour, and the 3D gimmick couldn’t save it. Considering even recent Nintendo 3DS releases have come out without bothering with 3D visuals at all, perhaps we can finally lay this gimmick to rest as something that just isn’t additive.
