“Full” Games on Demo Discs
Anyone who grew up in the 90s will remember demo discs. Usually bundled with magazines or other games, demo discs would offer previews for titles still in development. However, because developers didn’t want to create separate demo builds, they included the entire game on the disc with restrictions. Crash Bash is a good example and if a cheat code was used, then players could access the entire game from the demo. This wasn’t a free lunch per say – most of these builds were still in the beta stage – but it was still crazy at the time.
