Was there ever any doubt? Truly? Say what you will about Konami’s legendary franchise – the absurdity of some plot twists, the disappointment of The Phantom Pain’s story, etc. However, no one can deny the first game’s impact on the PlayStation One and the stealth action genre. Or that it seamlessly translated the Metal Gear gameplay style from the MSX2 era into full 3D. It also raised the bar on cinematic story-telling in video games, from the cinematography to the extensive cutscenes and voice-acting. Whether it marked your foray into the world of PlayStation or not, Metal Gear Solid remains a work of art and an essential piece of the PS One’s library.
