Sonic the Hedgehog
Every fan of Sonic the Hedgehog – and 2D platformers in general – needs to play the very first game. Not because it’s an absolutely essential part of gaming history but because, surprise surprise, it’s still really, really good. The music, from the nostalgic chords of Green Hill Zone, to the precise controls and blast processed 2D sprites – everything about Sonic the Hedgehog is simply top-notch. If it sounds like there isn’t much more to say, that’s because there isn’t. Play it, if you haven’t already.
