Sonic 3
To say that Sonic 3 was an ambitious undertaking for Sonic Team and Sega would be an understatement. It featured improved visuals (including a new design for Sonic), levels that were three times as large as Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the introduction of Knuckles the Echidna, and a deeper story revolving around Angel Island. The sheer magnitude of the project caused Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles to be split into two titles.
Nevertheless, from its new music (which has a long history due to Michael Jackson’s involvement) to the new special stages and two-player mode that allowed for playing as Knuckles, Sonic 3 was an incredibly fresh but still familiar and fun experience.
