Overwatch
When looking back at the initial announcement of Overwatch, its closed beta and the massive launch, it’s hard to envision how it could have been a risk. However, before Overwatch was even a thing, Jeff Kaplan and his team at Blizzard were working on a new MMO called Project Titan. Analysts had predicted a loss of $50 million in development – the team very much had their backs against the wall.
Using assets from Titan and refashioning the lore, it created Overwatch and pushed the hero shooter genre to new heights, attracting over 60 million players as of 2021.
