Halo: Reach
For their last hurrah in the Halo franchise, Bungie hyper-focused on Halo: Reach’s cinematography and game direction to bring us, the audience, uncomfortably close to Noble Six’s desperate struggle against The Covenant via diegetic and in-universe camera angles – CCTV, animal and onlooker perspectives, helmet cams, that sort of thing. The composition and acting in the game’s numerous cutscenes raised the bar for in-game cinematics too. Rarely is the bleakness of war portrayed so beautifully.
