Console Makers Earn the Most Money From Hardware Sales
One interesting myth is that console manufacturers like Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo earn most of their money from selling hardware. In reality, many companies are only just breaking even on consoles sold due to manufacturing costs. Sony is infamous for selling the PlayStation 3 at a loss for a long time before finally breaking even. Much of the money actually comes from royalties paid by developers and publishers who’s games are on the consoles.
