Parallax Software’s Descent series was rather unorthodox back in the day. Other first-person shooters opted for corridors and two dimensions of movement. Descent opted for all three axes, even supporting force feedback for certain controllers on PC. First released in March 1996 for MS-DOS, Descent 2 refined the original’s approach to combat and claustrophobic level design with the addition of Guide-Bot and FMV story scenes.
