9. Volume

Mike Bithell is best known for Thomas Was Alone, but his next game, Volume, looks like it’s borrowing from the Metal Gear Solid series. The game plays from the top-down perspective, and follows Robert Locksley, in a modern take on the Robin Hood legend, as he sneaks through various environments and steals items of importance without being detected. There’s no combat in Volume – it’s all stealth, though you do have an arsenal of tools to distract your enemies – so you’ll have to be on your toes at all times. Still, as a homage and a new game, it looks like an exciting and unique take on the genre.
