Procedurally generated, side-scrolling RPG, rogue-like – so far, so good for The Consuming Shadow. That is, until you need to defeat an ancient being before it invades by matching runes together. What are the runes? Who is the ancient being in question? Do you go about investigating the land to find clues or do you just follow the game’s advice from the beginning and kill yourself? Wait, what? Yes, there’s actually a choice from the start to shoot yourself. Maybe it’s a warning to save yourself from the madness of guesswork and insipid driving? A post-it note probably would have sufficed.
