You wouldn’t expect a game called Max Payne to have a happy ending, and true to its name, for most players, the ending certainly would have been a downbeat one. But the alternate ending is one that is almost just as happy as the main one is sad- and the game really makes you word for it. Finishing the game on the hardest difficulty sees Mona surviving the gunshot that kills her otherwise, and instead of dying in Max’s arms, the game finishes with her and Max happily sharing a kiss.
