Donkey Kong as a series has no shortage of hilariously named characters, but the one we’re focusing on here is the main man himself. And do we even need to say it? Donkey Kong is not a donkey. He’s a gorilla. Why is a called Donkey Kong. As Miyamoto himself explained it, his name is loosely supposed to mean “stubborn ape”, with “Donkey” conveying said stubbornness, but surely there could have been better ways to go do so.
