DARKER THEMES
Most Atlus games, especially the ones in the larger MegamiTensei meta-franchise, are known for their exceedingly dark themes and mature undertones, and the way they warp you to a whole another world brimming with biting, edgy atmosphere. The Persona game that embodies that atmosphere, that maturity and that darkness better than any other is Persona 3. Not only was it eerily atmospheric, it also had the balls to do things in terms of story twists and characters development that few games these days would. Persona 4, despite all its improvements over Persona 3, lost that, unfortunately. It was a much lighter game in tone- Inaba was a much happier place, and the story beats themselves were much more lighthearted. With Persona 5, it definitely looks like Atlus are going in the direction of Persona 3 once again, and we definitely hope that the highly anticipated RPG can boast the same kind of tension that Persona 3 did.
