THE LADDER (METAL GEAR SOLID 3)
Ah, the ladder. One of the best and boldest sequences not just in Metal Gear Solid 3, but probably in the entire series- or maybe even in any game ever. That might sound like hyperbole, but it’s a sequence that works on so many levels. For starters, the sheer audacity of a sequence that might seem so unnecessary on paper is laudable. More importantly, however, it’s the perfect blend of quiet introspection, of cinematic flair, of subtly building tension, and, of course, of excellent music. Weird? Yes, absolutely. Ingenious? Without a doubt.
