CELESTE
Difficulty in Celeste is very much the point of the game, not just because it bases its mechanics and level design around it, but also its story. Climbing the mountain is as much of a challenge for the players as it is for Madeline to overcome her personal struggles, and the two mesh together wonderfully, with her perseverance constantly being reflected in our own as players. Celeste’s difficulty is also easy to comes to grips with thanks to things such as instant respawns, and the fact that you always know how to overcome the next hurdle also encourages you to keep trying, with how good you are at the game being the only thing standing between you and the next challenge.
