Dark Souls
The Dark Souls series – all two if them- are a remarkable series of games and much of the satisfaction comes from overcoming the difficulty and relishing in your skills after multiple bloody retries like the video games of old. But if you’re playing Dark Souls and expecting just a “difficult” experience, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Overpowered regular foes, random traps, tough bosses, limited health items, and much more make for lots and lots of repetition. And then when you die in your standard hundred different ways, you get to try again. Dark Souls takes “challenging” to an all new sado-masochistic level, urging you to keep trying till you know your torturer’s every little detail. It’s like a more sadistic version of Groundhog Day – and no, you don’t get the girl in the end.
