Only One Boss, Only One Snake – Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Following the defeat of The Boss, she urges Snake to kill her. It’s an inevitable decision – The Boss must be sacrificed in order to protect the United States after the fallout of Virtuous Mission. As if foreshadowing what’s to come next, The Boss states, “There’s only room for one Boss and one Snake.” Snake kills The Boss as the field around them turns red. Later, Snake learns that The Boss defected under the order of the Untied States government in order to find the location of the Philosopher’s Legacy. Snake returns to the United States as a hero, awarded the title “Big Boss” for his efforts, but heart-broken at how his mentor and thousands of others were sacrificed in the name of patriotism.
