Dom’s Sacrifice – Gears of War 3
We like to rag on Dominic Santiago’s AI in the first Gears of War but what happened to his wife Maria in Gears of War 2 was just tragic (especially when it led to him euthanizing her). In Gears of War 3, Dom seems more or less like a man on edge but he still looks out for his own people. When the squad is overrun by the Locust and Lambent, Dom commandeers a truck and rams it into a fuel tanker, causing a massive explosion to take out all the enemies. However, he also kills himself in the process. Dom’s final words, “Never thought it would end like this, huh!? Huh, Maria!?” are pained but reflect that he was thinking of his wife, all the way up till the end.
