Big Boss Finally Rests – Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
The story of Big Boss forms the backbone of the Metal Gear franchise, even when Solid Snake is our introduction into the Solid side of it. There’s always been a significant friction in their ideologies but in Metal Gear Solid 1, Snake is revealed to be his clone, a product of Les Enfants Terribles. Despite their absolute distance, it only makes sense that when Snake is ready to take his own life at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4, who should appear but Big Boss, alive after so many decades. After giving Snake a new lease on life, however temporary, Big Boss falls victim to the new strain of FOXDIE in Snake’s body. After so many years and so much conflict, Big Boss finally acknowledges Snake as his son and brother in arms, taking one last puff of a cigar and saying, “This is good, isn’t it?” before fading away for good.
