Emergent gameplay
Previous Zelda game have always had the illusion of openness to them, but Breath of the Wild is the first game in the series to truly realize this- and I don’t mean that in the sense of the new game being open world either. The new physics engine, which I’ve already talked about, as well as the game’s non-linear approach to progression, lead to some truly interesting possibilities for emergent gameplay. With Breath of the Wild, for the first time in Zelda history, the players will get to craft their own legend within the larger adventure that this tale speaks off. There are hundreds of examples I could throw your way, but seeing as I’ve already listed so many of them throughout this feature, I’m assuming you get the idea.
