Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
The case of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a curious one. While there was nothing really wrong with the game itself, the situation surrounding its release didn’t do the game any favors either. You see, Marvel’s Avengers released in 2020 and ended up being one of the biggest disappointments of the year. And when Square Enix (the same publisher that put out Marvel’s Avengers the year prior) announced yet another Marvel licensed game, it’s fair to say that the scales were tipped in favor of skepticism rather than excitement for the upcoming release.
But Eidos Montreal proved the naysayers wrong by delivering a single player game that fulfilled most if not all of its promises. The story was engaging from start to finish, and while the combat wasn’t as flashy as many might have expected it to be – it was still a nice mix of action and strategy that served well enough for the course of the campaign. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a bold lesson that you don’t need to have a ton of supporting factors to sell a game that’s already good.
