ALIEN: ISOLATION
We’re not done with the survival horror genre just yet- let’s get back to it for what is probably its best attempt at taking the power completely out of players’ hands every chance it gets. Pretty early on in Alien: Isolation, you find yourself being hunted by a Xenomorph, and the hideous creature remains a major threat for the majority of the experience. The terror that you feel at the very sight of the titular alien, and the way your heart will try to crash through your ribs as you’re trying to remain hidden and silent as the Xenomorph searches for you in the room- honestly, “powerless” doesn’t even begin to describe how the game makes you feel in those situations.
