Every department joins hands in The Last of Us Part 1 to make the player feel helpless in its post-apocalyptic setting. A heartrending opening that tears Joel’s daughter away from him with an untimely (to say the least) death sets the tone instantly, and from there, things only escalate. The Last of Us Part 1 may not be the most challenging game out there, but its unrelentingly oppressive world, its stellar storytelling, and its healthy sprinkles of horror nonetheless ensure that you’re never feeling too comfortable.
