FIFA 2018 Free to Play mechanics
While EA did get a lot of grief for their inclusion of predatory Microtransations in another game, for some reason they seem to get away with it in their popular FIFA series year after year. The random picks out of the Ultimate Team packs that players build their teams from in FIFA 2018 and several previous iterations are completely down to random luck, leaving players struggling behind playing thousands of hours to grind up, or dropping thousands of dollars with no promises of getting anything better at all. Reddit users have complained that players have dropped over $8,000 to get a perfect team, and a huge head start for the competitive mode. They’ve done similar things in NFL, NHL, NBA Live and UFC 3, all while still never seeing the same kind of uproar that another title saw.
