Boring Companions
People are willing to let the companions off the hook in Fallout 3, and later in Fallout 4, because at least they were interesting characters. In Skyrim, Bethesda decided to go with quantity over quality. As a result, there are almost 100 companions in the game, but a vast majority are just mercenaries who silently follow you around with no real emotion or interest.
The handful of interesting companions remain that way until you marry them, at which point they’ll sit around your house forever with nothing to do, or repeat the same lines over and over again.
