SOULSLIKE BECOMING A GENRE

The Souls formula may have started with Demon’s Souls before the 2010s began, but it wasn’t until the massive popularity of Dark Souls that that formula pretty much become an entire subgenre in and of itself. Not only have we seen games being much more willing to challenge their players as a result of the Souls franchise’s success, but the combat, progression, and design philosophies that FromSoftware’s games employ have also seeped into many, many other games in recent years.
