Boy, are we glad this trend has died off. For the longest time, it felt like developers and publishers felt obligated to make video game adaptations of major franchise films, and though there were certainly some standouts, by and large they weren’t even that good. We still get video game adaptations of major franchises and properties of course, but with developers no longer bound to a specific story to tell, it feels like they can express themselves more creatively, which has resulted in significantly better games.
