7. Don’t Make A Generic Shooter
Survival horror games these days go in extremes. Either they put you situation where you can only curse your damned luck and seven hells for being in a situation where you can only scream and run like a six year old running from the clown under its bed at midnight. Outlast and Slender stand as proud paradigms for this.
On the other extreme, games like Dead Space 3 have a titular ‘horror-survival’ tag on them when in reality, they’re just another bunch of shooter games. That kind of gory, mad, first person bullet storm we already have from Bethesda by the name of Wolfenstein. Id, go look at the game’s roots.
