It’s been more than a decade since the last mainline Kingdom Hearts title. That’s pretty astonishing, even with the announcement of Kingdom Hearts 3, but Square Enix is doing a lot to prepare fans for the sequel. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, releasing on January 12th for PS4, will further drown us in lore, HD adaptations and side-stories from the loveable universe. Here’s what you should know before going in.

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 directly leads into Kingdom Hearts 3

If the name wasn’t much of an indicator, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue leads directly into the third Kingdom Hearts. While Square Enix has been a little shy on how exactly it segues into the sequel, the answer seems to lie in Aqua’s trials in the Realm of Darkness during A Fragmentary Passage.
