Payday 2 developers were adamant for the longest time that their game would never have microtransactions, so when that very thing did eventually end up happening, people were not happy about it. The microtransactions model itself was quite unabashedly a pay-to-win model, which wasn’t doing the developers any favours to begin with, but the way they handled the outrage they caused was what made the entire thing even worse- they basically ignored it. Payday 2 has since then dropped the monetization model, but it will always remain in our memories (for all the wrong reasons).
