Pokemon X and Y – Generation 1 pandering

Pokemon was finally taking that leap into 3D with Pokemon X and Pokemon Y on the 3DS, which by itself was already a huge deal. And the leap itself might have been enough to call back some lapsed fans, but instead of allowing the game to stand on its own, letting the new region and pokemon take the spotlight, tons of the game, like Mega Evolution, which largely was given to generation one pokemon, and the fact you receive an extra starter for the only time in the series, from Kanto, made the new games feel very reliant on those old standbys.
