This was a major kicker for just about every fan of the game because it just…came out of nowhere. One minute you’re prepping a helicopter to leave with Alyx to find the Borealis. The next minute, two advisors appeared and killed Eli Vance, the man who brought you back to life and believed in you. The cliff-hanger that followed and lack of any story follow-up didn’t help either.
